Palácio do Deão, the 213 years old Portuguese mansion

The Palácio do Deão is situated, 14 km from Margao, on the banks of the wildly beautiful Kushavati River in the Taluka of Quepem. This 213 years old mansion was built by a Portuguese noble man, who was the Dean of the Church, and founder of Quepem town.

The house faces the Church he built and is on the banks of the wildly beautiful Kushavati River. It is built in an unusual style blending elements of Hindu and Portuguese architecture.Another of its outstanding features are the lush gardens which have managed to preserve their historical features and have, since old times, been known as the most beautiful pleasure gardens in Goa.

Mr. Ruben who has painstakingly restored it bit by bit , stone by stone is a warm person who welcomes you to be a part of a journey into the past . I was lucky to be part of a typical goan lunch especially cooked by Ruben and his family , served in perfect Goan style. Although the magnificent noble era is lost to the history books, a day spent at  the Palácio do Deão helps you to relive the moment of nobility to be cherished .
